Rich-- I don't know whoever coined the phrase of "hazing", however, I am somewhat familiar with receiving an Airborne welcome. Getting your Jump Wings was a different issue than becoming "part" of the unit. Military humor is a little different; it's funny to remember some of the ...

Sensei Mattson--
Thank you opportunity to discuss this aspect of the martial arts.
I most definitely will avoid a physical confrontation if it is safe to do so (for both myself and those with me).
Once the ego is in check, many confrontations can and should be avoided.
Respectfully,

Re: HELP I need Info!

Please help me! I am new to this whole thing; I will be taking a Jujitsu class and I need to know how to get in shape. The way I figure it I am in the normal weight range for my height (5'8" - 160lbs.) but I know that I need to lose weight and get toned but I dont know where to start. I am als...

going to the ground by choice?

Hi Dana-- It sounds like you attended an excellent defense course! Going to the ground by choice is the only thing that I would question, regardless of the number of attackers. If you don't nail the attacker on his way in, he's in way too close. Then you do have a serious ground fight. Finish the gu...

much larger opponents

Hi Dana-- You've brought up a real good point. I do believe Tony's strategies are very workable for smaller people. I am only 5'7" and 155 lbs. so I can relate to that point of view. The reason I am studying Tony Blauer's videos is that they show me how to maximize my effectiveness. This video,...

simplicity

Dana-- Thanks for the excellent forum! I was thinking of the Corey's comments about keeping the number of techniques down. I wholeheartedly agree. Amassing a huge number of techniques may end up reducing a person's effectiveness. A few extremely reliable techniques that have "stopping power&quo...

creatures of habit

Sensei Sheets-- Thank you for your insights. It is so true that we , as creatures of habit, can easily set ourselves up for a violent or compromising scenario to unfold. I am running a reality-based personal defense course for women in our area. The course starts with mental preparation; mainly not ...

motivation or lack of it

Hi Vicki-- I really empathize with this situation! There are a lot of reasons why people won't even attempt getting back in shape. None of them are good, and perhaps none of them make sense to to other people. What used to frustrate me was working hard physically most of my life, but still having a ...

Training resources for those in wheelchair, etc.?

Sensei Sheets-- Thank you for putting on this forum! I trained with Sensei Canna before relocating to Florida several years ago, the forums are a great way to keep learning. Perhaps you could provide me with some good resources concerning training for people who are in wheelchairs or dealing with ot...

More information on adaptive training is very welcome!

Thank you Sensei Glasheen for your timely response! I look forward to hearing more from you on this. I was talking with a guy a few weeks ago who had been in a wheelchair who emphasized that most people in his situation were ready for some good hard training. His attitude was great! Thanks again for...

Hi Susie-- I really appreciate your insights on these subjects. Last April I wanted to take off some weight. I did lower my carb intake for 4 weeks, kept eating fruits & vegetables, drank plenty of water, took good multivitamin/mineral supplements, and walked a couple of miles per day. I kept up...
