Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Bill Sorry to bring back bad memories and I hope your son is okay. Thank god and science for crumple zones. The point I was trying to make is that our speed and power is relative to our opponent. If we hit as our opponent retreats along our line of force the impact and relative speed will be decreas...

Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Bill I am no scientist but are we not missing half the equation? Have you seen what happens to that sports car when it hits a tree? I have, the tree loses a little bark and the car that has provided all the speed and power is destroyed. With soft blocks we are able to re-direct an opponents attack w...

Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Glen It will certainly do till a better one comes along. Thanks to all who have taken the time to reply. I got much more than I could have hoped for out of this discussion. I knew that my question had many answers but somethings are now a little clearer if only in my own head. If anyone finds a copy...

Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Glen Feel free to digress as much as you want this article however brief is fascinating. I find any insights into what was going through Master Uechi's head at this time priceless. If he was considering changing the styles name at this time to his own then it would imply that he felt he had moved on...

Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Thank you Steve and Glenn for your replies. Steve I am sorry but I have not found any new historical reference books. I wish I had. I can only read the same books available to yourself and trawl the internet for old stories.(some of the histories on club web sites are quite interesting). So I am no ...

Re: Kanbun Uechi master?

Every generation of martial artists are reputed to have trained harder than the ones that come after them and the teachers that have passed away become legendary. However in reality there is a limit. I have tried training every day of the week sometimes twice a day and by the end of the third week y...

Kanbun Uechi master?

Before anyone makes plans to burn me at the stake as a heretic I accept that Kanbun Uechi became a master but my question is when and how. When I first read of the ten years he spent studying kung fu in china I was rather young and thought that this was a long time. However now I am older I am amaze...

Re: Secret?

Hi I am new to the forum and found this topic very interesting. I am not a fan of any of the two dimensional blocks and consider them a last resort to be used only when I have messed everything else up and it is a choice between a hard impact on my arm or my head. However I do feel sorry for people ...

Greetings from England

Hi I have been studying Uechi Ryu in the UK for a few decades now and I thought it would be nice to discuss the finer points with a wider range of interested parties. I started my training in Karate with a brief 3 year stint at Wado Ryu in the early 70s. Some of the high grades at the club I attende...
