Many never did switch. I still have the chinese charecter on my belt as does a number of the black belts at Nago Shubukan.

Clapping and bowing to pictures? When you enter and leave the dojo you bow to the pictures as a sign of respect. The clapping and bowing at the beginning and end of class, in Okinawa anyhow, is to a small religous piece, butsudan, placed in a sacred place in the dojo. This is totally a religious act...

This is just the traditional hakama normally worn for special occasions. Anyone can wear it at anytime, but they would look silly, in Okinawa anyhow, just walking around in it. They are normally worn at coming of age ceremonies that occur at certain points during an individuals life. 16, 20, 73, 83,...
