Many never did switch. I still have the chinese charecter on my belt as does a number of the black belts at Nago Shubukan.

This book in good shape sells for around 63,000 JpYen here in Okinawa at the used book stores. Which is around $700 with the current exchange rate. Just picked one up for someone last month.

In Nago we call it Sue Goshii Dachi, but some dojo here in Okinawa call it Shiko Dachi. It is the same thing. Just a different way of saying it.

$570 - $770 depending on the exchange rate of course thet is in okinawa. i am told by the book store owners they go for about $1000 in mainland japan. i havent spoke with him in about 8 months, but am sure it has not changed that much.

The Uechi-Ryu blue book goes for approx. 60,000 - 80,000 japanese yen in okinawa depending on the condition. If you look you can find them.

If I am not mistaken Kanei sensei recieved his 10th dan in 1977 from Zen Okinawa and later from Zen Nippon. He was alive for both. The only time he wore his red belt was at the ceremony of his promotion. (according to Uechi Hirosada, his nephew)

Clapping and bowing to pictures? When you enter and leave the dojo you bow to the pictures as a sign of respect. The clapping and bowing at the beginning and end of class, in Okinawa anyhow, is to a small religous piece, butsudan, placed in a sacred place in the dojo. This is totally a religious act...

This is just the traditional hakama normally worn for special occasions. Anyone can wear it at anytime, but they would look silly, in Okinawa anyhow, just walking around in it.
