Saturday evening

I hadn't considered staying into the evening, as I have to be in my office early Sunday morning, but I'll think about it. It would be fun to have the chance to meet people, particularly those with whom I've had email correspondences for years without ever meeting face to face.

Although I no longer work at Tuttle Publishing, I'm signing up a few martial arts books at the Lyons Press, where I'm concentrating more on fiction, military history, and business books. If anyone wants to talk to me about publishing during a slack time in camp, don't hesitate. Books I'm looking for...

Tuttle and children's books

Tuttle publishes children's books if they are related to either martial arts or Japanese or other Asian culture. The publishing director to contact there is Ed Walters, ewalters@tuttlepublishing.com.

You can use my name as a reference.

I'm willing to answer any questions regarding publishing. I'm also willing to consider manuscript submissions on a wide range of subjects. I don't get on the net very often these days, so it's best to talk to me directly. I'm not with Tuttle anymore, but I have acquired a couple of martial arts book...

Unusual problem - Simple solution

There is an interesting article by Jane Brody in today’s (July 18, 2000) New York Times - Science Times section on water, called “On Tap or Bottled, Pursuing Purer Water.” To test the water in your home, she recommends: <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote To fi...

Dan Test "Sanchin"

The hardest sanchin testing I've seen was at Takamiyagi Shigeru's Uechi dojo in Okinawa. (This was before the split.) I kind of thought that this was especially emphasized to impress the Shorin Ryu visitors who were watching workout that night, but the students who were being tested didn't seem to v...

On Bunkai – A Discourse

Hi Victor, Your experience with bunkai is about the opposite of mine. I began studying karate (Matsubayashi Ryu) in 1970 in a US Air Force base gym. Our teacher was still an ikkyu at the time, but we were visited fairly often by American black belts and occasionally by Okinawan black belts. They all...

Forumites' Lunch at Camp

I had hoped to make it, too, but I couldn't skip work Friday or round up child care for the weekend in advance. Next year my children will be old enough to forage for themselves and I can just turn them out to pasture. I hope everyone has a great time and learns lots. ------------------ George Nana ...

Bruce Lee info Fact or Fiction?

Bruce Lee was living in Washington during that period, and had already left his brawling days behind. I haven't seen anything in his diaries or notes yet about him fighting anyone named Uechi or anyone from Uechi Ryu. There is really only one documented "fight" after his youth, when member...

It's the down days that help us know who and what we are as individuals. Don't apologize for being down at times--it's part of the natural cycle we go through in dealing with the facts of our lives. As far as tips for dealing with the situation, I have only one to add to the many fine ones listed al...
