Re: You have 10 second. What do you see?

Or the victim of repeated abuse. Injuries document trauma...not necessarily the underlying conditions. My point was the mindset of people dealing with him. A first glance should send signals that this person was accustomed to going toe-to-toe with others. Broken nose from being hit... cauliflower fr...

Re: Serendipity in the martial way

Non-Uechi, non-master, just an observation from an old beginner: 'Seek and you will find, ask and it will be given, knock and the door shall open.' It's a saying based in a Christian philosophy, but has a counterpart in Buddhist thought as well, and embedded in the martial arts ('you must first look...

If you seniors don't mind an aside from a newbie in the peanut gallery. Even as a female, I don't take issue to objectification of the female body...feel free to worship my double-d's. ;) I enjoy good writing, and as much as I hate myself for it, laugh with 'the guys' viewing situational comedies. I...

A challenge?

The conundrum is how to acknowledge another's experience without dwelling on our own. Kudos to anyone, male or female, willing to share their experience with violence (regardless of the 'battlefield') in order to facilitate change.

Guilty! It seems that the instant I'm concentrating on one hand, I 'forget' about the other. I can't seem to fix this, and am constantly reminded about it. Any suggestions on how to address it? The hand that looks like it is going into a chambering position should not be a useless, lifeless, ...

Shana...you must be a mindreader! I was thinking the same thing today about last night's class: Journal 2/25/2010 'What do you want to work on?' I've never been comfortable with sensei's practice of asking me this question. I suspect the average student is acclimated to 'top-down' learning, and expe...

That kinda depends on your doctor, if they are participating and their client base. I'm not high risk, and called my doctor to enquire on Wed., and got the mist the same day. On the other hand, my child's pediatrician is the most popular one in 3 towns, and has been giving the H1N1 shot/mist for the...

Nope. Decided as a kid to live a life with no regrets...no guilt. I eat the Reeses' PB cup and enjoy it to the hilt. But those things that are 'just for me': -listening to Puccini arias full blast with the windows open while cleaning house -meadering through libraries and bookstores, and just ...

Working 2 jobs, with kids, I gave up trying to fit it into home time for 7 years. I practice at work now, adjusting my day to get in an hour at lunch time.

Yep. Every day. One 2 hr Goju class, and one 2 hr kobudo class, per week, and daily practice on top of it. 1/2 hr to 1 hr every day. 'Warm-up' is flexible: 2 mile walk, bike ride, strength training, gung li, or just plain kicks and stretching. Followed up with a mix of kobudo/goju depending on my mo...

Same thing here. Hubby is laid off on Friday. On Wed., another person who had a layoff came into work and slit his wrists in the parking lot. 'Hunkering down', and staying positive is important...not just for us but for those in our circles that may need help getting through. Thank you for the threa...
