Re: brought to us by the inventors of Agent Orange. . .

Addendum: Yes Bill, I know that you believe ethical business is smart business in the long run. I think that's a red herring. It may well be true, but knowing that an unethical business that did me harm filed for bankruptcy isn't much comfort.

Re: brought to us by the inventors of Agent Orange. . .

I don't see why they shouldn't have to label their products. I don't have a fear of GMO in theory or in general, but I think there is insufficient oversight. Other food additives have to be labelled, why not those created by GMOs? Yes, genes are genes, but at the moment, a company is essentially all...

Quote OK well doesn't that apply to Obama as well?? Yes, but he's not on these forums. You are. There are as many claims that the US used it as that is was Assad. No there aren't. There might be some claims the US used it, but there are probably some claims that Genghis Kahn used it too. I'm a big ...

Re: Syria

The "unintended consequence" of the deal with Russia to remove the chemical weapons is to assure al-Assad's grip on power in the country. ... If you aren't prepared to fix what you broke, then you shouldn't touch the thing. But they did, and now the U.S. has effectively taken sides in a c...

Re: Syria

I haven't watched the video (and from the sound of it there's no reason to), but I think we should stay the hell out of Syria. Not pleased with the Obama administration's handling of it, with the one caveat that if it actually turns out to be an elaborate good cop/bad cop bluff with Russia and they ...

Japanese knotweed is edible, by the way. Not that I'd encourage it anyway.

Re: An argument for genetically-modified food sources

Weed = any plant that grows well on its own without any fertilizer or water added, and being cheaper and easier to grow has been deemed undesirable :D This is one among my many soapbox issues. The suburban lawn is just one of those repugnant conspicious consumption things. No thanks. I hate most of...

Re: An argument for genetically-modified food sources

I don't know what Lincoln's laws are, but in Marlborough if your neighbors complain to the city they mail you a warning that you have to mow your lawn or pay fines. However, I just called the city and said that I'm intentionally keeping a wildflower meadow asked for specific details about what I hav...

Re: An argument for genetically-modified food sources

Last I heard on this story (on NPR) was that there may have been a can of insecticide sitting around near the food in the kitchen. That is, this may not even be related to the food supply as much as it is the preparation - people spraying bugs too close to the food. That aside, glyphosate (roundup) ...

Re: Genetically Modified Foods - Please watch this video!

It seems to me the sugar beet growers worked it out amongst themselves so that nobody was contaminating anyone else's plants with the pollen from other varieties. It's not just the beet growers who have a stake though: Cross pollination between GM sugar beets and related plants, such as chard and t...

Now even if GMO food supplies don't bother you, what about the cross contamination issue? Should farmers be allowed to plant crops which are guaranteed to cause financial harm to neighboring farms?

But what if instead the master actually continued to learn and grow as a martial artist throughout his life, then he would also likely be teaching differently at different stages and thus the two students could learn a different version of the same "style". Or what if the master was also ...

Re: Obama signs 'Monsanto Protection Act

If you consider that a million Irish died because of a potato blight that could have been prevented with modern techniques, well I tend to take what Monsanto is doing personally and with proper perspective . (emphasis mine) Sorry, Bill, but I have to stop you there. Taking things personally more of...
