Is it chi?

Post by f.Channell »

Indian man survives 70 years without food or water.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... years.html

They are watching him on 24 hour video for 2 weeks. Is it possible?
No wonder diets don't work, we don't need food!

Man claims to have had no food or drink for 70 years

***

He has not eaten or drunk any fluids in six days

***

It is common in India for Jains and Hindus to fast, sometimes for up to eight days, without any adverse affects

***

Doubts were expressed about his claim after his weight fell slightly at the end of the trial.
It speaks for itself.

Notice how you have to go to the last line in the article to get the truth.

I knew Yoga was bad for you.

As Yoga grows in popularity in North America expect more problems in obesity.

Hmmmm...Does that apply to chi as well?

I believe we can control functions of our bodies with the static training of our brain to a certain extent. BUT, nothing beats physical exercise to achieve a well tuned "machine" as Robb calls it.

Six days and he's already lost weight? Sorry... it doesn't begin to pass the sniff test.

But what a wonderful con man he is! He has the press eating out of his hands, and a National Enquirer public lapping it up.

I think he has a future in marketing. ;)

Doesn't say how much weight Bill.
I'm sure you'd rather see the numbers.
If nothing else it's interesting.

It's free publicity for yoga, just as mystical stories of chi and breaking schit was publicity for karate.

Leo pretty much has it pegged. This guy just has unusual control over his autonomic function - to the point that he can hybernate like a bear. But hybernation does not mean no food and water for 70 years. So he can slow his metabolism down. Oookaaay... Useful information if I'm stuck in a famine or something. But I have other things I'd rather be good at right now. I'm trying to amp my metabolism up so I can be more explosive in my martial arts. Explosive power takes energy, and energy takes calories. You can't create something from nothing. It's a basic law of science.

I'm happy that he's getting attention for what he's good at. The human potential - in ANY form - is always a fascinating topic of conversation.

For what it's worth... I'm getting a bit of return on my investment in the Indian community here. With Capital One hiring lots of folks of Indian descent, we have a very strong Indian and Hindu community here. There's an incredible Hindu temple being constructed just around the corner from my home. Anyhow... A friend of the father of one of my female Indian students has offered to take me under his wing for a study of meditation. Good stuff! I'm looking forward to it.

Obviously Hindu is only one of the many religions of India. Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian, Jainism etc...

Meditation is cool. My first instructor called Sanchin "moving meditation."

If you go beyond the recent histories of martial arts in Japan (Oki) and China before the 5th century you find yoga as being preliminary training to martial arts training in indigenous Indian martial arts. Mostly by the Kshatriya warrior caste and warrior brahmans. Also connected is medicine, as it was in China when Kanbun learned. Influences went west to east, not the other way around. This is visible through the transmission of Buddhism and Indian architecture in the regions through to China.

Whether or not the men Alexander the Great left behind in India influenced the existing Indian martial arts with the local warrior people they conquered, is something interesting to ponder.

Going beyond Okinawa and China to the source you have to include yoga in the mix.

Consider the source. Pravda? Riiiiggghhhttt!!!! I'd sooner believe The National Enquirer.

The Russian pop group Silver is the only thing worth looking at in Pravda.
