Neighbors are not nearly as hostile as everyone claims. Stuff like this has been going on for years, just never makes the news.

That story has been discounted.
Dubai: Gulf states will not support any military action against Iran despite being wary about its nuclear programme, analysts said on Saturday.

"Saudi Arabia will not cooperate with Israel or any other country to attack Iran. We have always advocated a peaceful solution to the Iran crisis," Dr Abdul Aziz Hamad of King Saud University told Gulf News.

But there HAVE been more friendly relations over the past few years, and this rumour surfaces nearly every year before it's either shot down or vanishes.

Good point. And I know what you're thinking.

The Saudis want neither Iraq (under Saddam) nor Iran (under ANYBODY) dominating the Middle East. It's entirely plausible that they'd use Israel to keep Iran in check as they attempt to become a nuclear power - and deny it to the public.

We'll never know until/when/if the sheet flies. And it very well may. The Israelis already blew up the early makings of an Iraqi reactor many years ago. History could repeat itself.

Totally, a nuclear Iran makes the arab states shake.

Based on just personal experience, it seems arabs have far more fear of a new persian empire in comparison to isreal. Sure the leaders play on the xenophobia in the gulf states to keep the people distracted from thinking about how they are dominated by dictatorships(and oppressing their fellow arab palistinians within their countries)
But it seems thats what it mostly is, an illusion to distract. But in the end, the Iranians are what they really fear.
