Essence of Evolution Fall seminars in NY and FL

Post by Matt_Irvin »

This September, Master Su, Dongchen will be giving seminars on the Essence of Evolution martial arts methodology in New York and Florida. Master Su began studying Chinese martial arts at the age of 15 at Hong Yixiang's Tang Shou Dao academy. At the age of 16 he won second place in the Taipei Chinese Martial Arts Sanda Open Tournament. At age 17, he won first place. He went on to win several national full contact championship titles in Taiwan. He moved to Japan in 1973, where he spent the next 30 years teaching and researching martial arts. Master Su also performed at the 25th Anniversary Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate-Do Memorial Tournament. His research led him to meet and exchange knowledge with many well-known martial arts masters, including Mas Oyama of Kyokushinkai Karate, Sou Dojin of Shorinji Kempo, Chen Xiaowang of Chen Taiji, Imi Litchenfeld of Krav Maga, and Chang Dongsheng of Shuai Jiao. The Essence of Evolution fighting methodology is the culmination of Master Su's research and experience.

Essence of Evolution is not a new "style" of martial arts. It is not traditional, nor is it merely an eclectic blending of styles and techniques. Essence of Evolution represents a research philosophy and a system of principles, movement dynamics, strategy, and tactics, as well as martial arts technique. As such it can be beneficial to all practitioners with an investigative mindset, regardless of style or background.

Rochester, New York
September 18th and 19th
10am to 4pm
Saturday:
Strategic Thought: Formation and Tactics: Before one can research principles of defense at the point of combatively crossing hands, one must first understand overall strategy. In martial arts, this begins with a discussion on the purpose of a guard or posture. The equivalent military term for posture is formation. Most styles of martial arts have a particular formation, but as a practitioner, do you understand the nature of that formation? Do you understand its purpose? Is it a defensive or offensive posture? And what is the difference? Are you merely copying your teacher? Are you training "qi?" If martial arts has strategy and tactics, what is your strategic idea? This seminar will focus on Formation and Tactics expressed through posture, as well as training methods and technique application. Seminar will include an in-depth analysis and discussion of Xing Yi's Santi posture.

Sunday: Strategic Evolution: Spiral Tactics: In order to apply one's art, one must first understand the fundamental ranges of combat. However, once the tactical defensive ideas in each range are understood, you must go to the next step. Understanding of this strategic evolution is necessary to conquer larger, stronger opponents, or multiple opponents. Spiral tactics also entails a discussion of throwing techniques, their key principle, and application methods that flow from that principle. Seminar will include an in-depth analysis and discussion of Ba Gua's Changing Palm.

Host: Bud Gardner of Renaissance Martial Arts -- Sifu Bud Gardner has over 35 years of experience in the martial arts, including Judo, Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Xing Yi. He currently teaches the Chinese internal martial arts with an emphasis on Essence of Evolution principles.
