July 2006 - K. Shinjo, N. Shinjo, Shinyu Gushi - Maryland

Post by Dana Sheets »

I asked Rik about the training times and below is his response.

"To answer your question, all formal training will be
daytime between 9 ish and 4 ish. Evenings will be either social plans
with group (e.g, partay), or optional small training sessions for such
things s Aikido, maybe Reiki, etc."

Both Shinjos, Gushi, and Sensei Thompson.
Who would want to miss out? Not me.
Again - please let Rik know if you plan to attend so he can get a head count.

happy training,
Dana
Folks,
>
> The Koshukai for 2006 is threatened because of the low projected
> participation. It's not for lack of RSVP from the group; most (but not all)of you have indeed responded to my request... Thank you for that.
>
> It's the actual participant numbers themselves which are disappointing. With the current projected participation numbers, we are about 1/3 the way to the break even point at the present fee structure (see www.UechiMD.com Koshukai
> buttons). For your further reconsideration, I am extending the head count due date until February 11.
>
> Please encourage more of folks from your dojo and region who can commit to participate in the Koshukai. We need to know by Saturday February 11. After that date, we may need to consider another sort of action based on lack of interest (increase the registration fees or cancel the event). I need to be transparent and tell you all that we will not go forward with this event if a substantial financial loss is projected.
>
> Just to be clear, I take no offense if folks cannot come. However, if you cannot make it, please encourage your students and colleagues to attend and respond by 2/11.
>
> I want folks to come here because they want to train with the Masters for a week of training and fun.
> In the end, participation will most significantly determine the fate of Koshukai 2006. It's up to you now.

Update

Post by Dana Sheets »

The brothers Shinjo ended up with a conflict and will not attend. Below is the revised detail on the training.
-Dana

Here is the updated July event information.
"Zen Shugyo" or enlightened training, is chosen as the title in honor
of our deeply insightful instructors!

A new registration form and fee will be published soon on the www.UechiMD.com
website.

We are fortunate to have as instructors the following distinguished
Senseis:

Sensei Shinyu Gushi (Uechi-Ryu and Kobudo)
Sensei James Thompson (Uechi-Ryu and Kobudo)
Sensei John Spencer (Uechi-Ryu)
There may be one more instructor too! (We are discussing details now.)

Here is the overall schedule:

July 19 Wednesday evening welcome reception in my home
July 20 Thursday Training 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Katie Fitz Center in
Darnestown, MD
July 21 Friday Training 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the same Center
July 22 Saturday morning Kenyukai Dan test and/or Rykokau Kobudo Dan
test (9 a.m. to noon)
July 22 Saturday afternoon Optional Sayonara outdoor party probably at
my home too

Here is a more detailed schedule for the two (2) training days of
Thursday and Friday.
8:00 a.m. doors open
8:40 - 9:00 a.m. Group opening and Jumbi Undo
9:00 - 10:45 a.m. Session 1 Senseis Gushi and Thompson
11:00 - 12:30 p.m. Session 2 Senseis Spencer and TBD
12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Lunch break, optional catered lunch available
on-site
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Session 3 (Senseis Gushi and Thompson)
4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Free time for pictures, additional practice,
discussion

Over the course of two days, each participant will have the opportunity
to train twice with Senseis Gushi and Thompson, and once with John
Spencer and one other Sensei (Sorry... you just have to wait to find
out who it is until I confirm it.)

There will be no separate children's class this time. I leave it to
the Senseis of their students to recommend if a teen or pre-teen
student has the mental maturity to participate safely side-by-side with
adults in a non-distracting manner. Please discuss with me on a
case-by-case basis.

New flyers are in preparation and the website will be updated soon!
