The Drive for Ensnarement

SATA is becoming the buzzword for the new generation of fast hard storage that has already begun to hit the streets.

However, buyer beware.

Make sure you read all the fine print before you get one because the ads are misleading and the spec comparisons I've seen written are similar tp comparing apples to Buicks. SATA hard drives, while they may be in the evolutionary path the future of the common drive, are currently not the future, are as expensive byte-for-byte as SCSI drives, and are NOT AS FAST.

For the speed/size factor, I highly recommend getting a jumbo IDE drive such as the Western digital with an 8 meg buffer and installing it in an exernal firewire case. Cases are readily available for under 100 bux. Insist on firewire and not usb because the firewire interface opens the drive at its full speed where usb 2, while much faster than usb 1, is still a crippled interface.
Always with an even keel.
