How to save your hard drive

Post by -Metablade- »

This is what the web was really made for!
If you have some tough issue in your life, and you solved it,
PLEASE make a website and post it.
(I know this sounds sarcastic, but I am serious.)

You posted that one in the wrong forum! :)

Definitely one for the Jokes forum.

What dedication. Now for my hard drive story:

I kept getting a message on boot up that my hard drive was guaranteed to crash! I ran all kinds of diagnostic programs that said the drive was perfect!

But the messages kept coming.

I called my tech buddy, who helps me with my computers, when I screw something up. He says, this is a valid message from the "new" Microsoft, indicating that a weakness of some kind will within a couple weeks, kill your hard drive! My friend took my hard drive and copied everything to a new drive. He said the copying process was difficult because my old drive kept dying. He was able to save everything, which saves me a ton of work.

So... if anyone gets that message, don't ignore it. Microsoft has finally done something right!

Hmmm..
I'd have to know the exact error message to be certain, but it sounds like you may have had embedded adware rather than it being a Microsoft generated error.

Here are two tools I recommend:

WinASO and Adaware

Download.com has them both.
For GRATIS!

I have Pest control, that does a good job with the adware.
This message comes up as part of the booting process. It is well known, apparently, because after I purchased PC Doc, which is a pretty good disk fixer, and the message kept coming up, I called PC Doc and their tech people told me the error message was one I shouldn't ignore. (After getting the message I was able to continue with the boot and the computer worked OK.

I'll see if I can find the error message anywhere on goggle and will post it.
