Dedicated to Vicki

Post by Bill Glasheen »

GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

Image

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he 's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he 's to setting.

Image

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Image

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

I love because I love without expectation of results or even meaning.

Image

I spend time with the people I enjoy having in my world

Image

and when they move on, they move on.

Image

I act the way I would be proud to act, not to set an example or because I should, but because it pleases me.

Image

I like strong people; I will be strong.

Image

I like skillful people; I will develop skill.

Image

I like people who take care of others

Image

I will protect and defend and if I die doing the job, cool

Image

because I am going to die anyway and nothing will have mattered.

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

Image

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.

Image

But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Image

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me?

Image

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.

Image

But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Image

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.

Zen monk poems

Post by Bill Glasheen »

Ima made wa
heta ga shinu zo to
omoishi ni
jōzu mo shineba
kuso jōzu kana

Till now I thought
that death befell
the untalented alone.
If those with talent, too,
must die
surely they make
a better manure.

- Kyoriku

Sōkan wa
doko e to hito no
tōtareba
chito yōji ari
ano yo e to ie

Should someone ask
where Sokan went,
just say,
“He had some business
in the other world.”

Ware shinaba
sakaya no kame no
shita ni ikeyo
moshi ya zizuku no
moriyasennan

Bury me when I die
beneath a wine barrel
in a tavern.
With luck
the cask will leak.

- Moriya Sen'an

It's strictly "family only" time now. We the "extended family" are honoring the wishes of the immediate family.

From the time she first knew until the time she was no longer able to speak, she faced her unfortunate future with the kind of courage and grace that very few display. She's lived a rich life - as I've indirectly alluded to above. Vicki has quite a legacy of children, grandchildren, friends, and accomplishments for such a short time on this earth. Her life has been anything but conventional, but then that's what has made her such a good and interesting friend.

Alas the candle that burns twice as bright often burns half as long.

Jason,
Just sit around with people who know Vicki and you'll think you have.
