Kicks vs punches

While working on shadowboxing, I realized one advantage of punches vs kicking. When I kick, I cannot move while my foot is in the air, standing on one foot. Meanwhile, I can step in any direction while throwing punches, allowing me to move at all time, which is important in Uechi-ryu. Any thoughts?
