Politics & Apologies to Billy Joel

Post by Scott Danziger »

I've been working on this on and off for about 6 months. Most of it in the last half hour or so. You may think it belongs in the creative forum but I think it really fits better here.

Sung to the tune of "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me"

What's the matter with the patch I'm wearing?
Can you tell me if my gi's too tight?
Maybe I should wear a gold laced obi,
with fancy kanji that glows in the night.
Can you test me while I am doing sanchin?
Am I breathing correctly, shoulders down & pelvis tucked in?
Okikukai, Shohei Ryu, Kenyukai, Pangainoon
It's still Uechi ryu to me.

Oooh - What's the matter with the punch I'm throwing?
Is my shoken facing upside down?
Maybe I should kick below the waistline,
would the nuts and knees be out of line?
Doesn't matter if you trained on Okinawa,
or Boston Massachusetts or the shores of Karubunga.
Okikukai, Shohei Ryu, Kenyukai, Pangainoon
It's still Uechi ryu to me.

Oh, I don't care what they're saying in the newsgroups,
cause it's always been the same dumb thing.
There's a new clown in town who tries to put our system down
but it doesn't mean a thing to me,
the bonehead wasn't born with chi.

Oooh - Maybe I should try a new fancy style
Watch Kung fu theater - join the UFC.
Study hard under a 30 year old 10th dan
worship ninja's and live in a tree.
Then again I could just get down to business
Just shut up and train while I listen to the seniors.
Okikukai, Shohei Ryu, Kenyukai, Pangainoon
It's still Uechi ryu to me.
Okikukai, Shohei Ryu, Kenyukai, Pangainoon
It's still Uechi ryu to me.

You're good enough for the drunken, after-workout entertainment! I toast you with my stout!

Scott: I don't have much of a singing voice, but will join Bill G. and hundreds of other happy campers at the Saturday party, singing your wonderful song.

Tony is putting the finishing touches on J.D.'s t-shirt. Wondering if there is room on the shirt for:

quote:
Okikukie, Shohei Ryu, Kenyukai, Pangainoon

It's still Uechi ryu to me.

Scott: Wow, that is really nice.

GEM: The t-shirt you are making is a great idea for 'we of the open mind'. How about one for the 'closed mind set'? We could draw on another older Billy Joel song 'Signs, signs, everywhere signs'...... and have a shirt that says 'Do this, don't do that' and and award them to the deserving.

Scott, you will need to reword that someway so as not to run afoul of copyright laws.

Rich

Anthony,

Just remember that the correct spelling is Okikukai. Don't want some Okinawans thinking that we can't spell. (Yeah, look who's talking - Ed.)

Jackie: You may be right about that. Any over 30's out there to followup on that?

Further apologies to 5 man electrical band and Tesla (Who did a fantastic cover)

This is on short notice so we get only one verse and a chorus. (sorry)

And the sign said anybody studying hard styles - need not apply,
So I took my patch right off of my gi and I walked and asked him why.
He said, 'you look like a fine and gullible guppy, I think you'll do.'
So I took out my patch and said 'imagine that, me, training with you.'

Chi Chi every where there's chi.
Screwing up my universe
messing with me.
Do this don't do that without your chi...

Oh well, it's late.

Thanks all for the kind words. I try to find the comedic version of negative situations.

Anthony, I did the other side of the t-shirt that I showed you with the above quote. I steal er get my best ideas here. (Sorry Sensei Mattson - but it was a great idea) Maybe I should post the pic, what do ya think?

Sensei Bill, Drink one for me (I prefer German beer)

Doc X: Cool Poem

Scott,

As someone who sees a song in every circumstance ... I LOVE IT!!

Hey, guys if you're serious about the T-shirt, I want one for myself and some to sell on consignment!

Jackie ...

PS Rich ... wasn't "Sign, sign, etc." by 5-Man Electrical Band? Did Joel write that song?
