Sounds very plausible to me. I'm quite a fan of massage.

One of the better "Western minded" kyusho people I know (he's a physician's assistant) gained much of his "hands on" experience through Eastern massage methods. The combination of their massage methods with his knowledge of basic anatomy and his experience in actually putting fingers on flesh has given him a remarkable ability to go for those special "owie" points.

There's no magic in this, and it is indeed understood. The electrical feelings are often nothing more than nerve stimulation. You can cause exactly that just by whacking your funny bone (the ulnar nerve) or taking your knuckles and rubbing the inside bone of your wrist (the radial nerve). Relaxation can come from a number of different mechanisms - the most notable being the release of endorphins. The mechanism for muscle relaxation and subsequent hormone release is a topic worthy of a long discussion.

Healing touch - at least that which was portrayed in the movie - is another story altogether.

I must have been posting the same time you were...anyway, thankyou. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one out here not completely closed minded (stop that...nah, go for it)

My cat is a lynx...she has no tail.

The body has its own techniques and methods of maintaining and healing itself (naturally released chemicals and possibly electronic pulses, etc.) Why can't there be people who have learned or have a natural gift to manipulate the bodies own chemistry and physiology to speed up the process?

Doctor X - man, you crack me up!!! I have more laughs from your posts :-)

You said "Nevertheless, "explanation" and "work" is problematic. It tends to justify a myth."

Hey, what's the problem with that? You know, there are a lot of great myths out there (just look at martial arts my friend).

Shelly: I'll back you up any time (but you'll have to get rid of the cat - I hate 'em!!) Sorry. Too bad you didn't have two - you could make gloves (a bit messy) Then again, lynx's sound cool...

Bill: What are your thoughts on the "hands off" techniques? By the way I missed the movie (must have been at class...oh darn!!)

If you really must know... My interest in the sexual dysfunction subject goes back over a decade. Did you know that the basic science - the cellular response to nitric oxide - won the researcher a nobel peace prize? We were using various agents to influence myocardial perfusion. Viagra was one of the first commercial applications of the basic science involving NO, cyclic-GMP, etc.

But the myocardium is the romantic's love muscle.

I'm all for it. That's the way most modern medicine works. A vaccine is the classic example. Teach the body to ward off this nasty bug.

The lotus eaters don't have a corner on this propaganda.

Touche!

To all

Need to bug out and apply some parental medicine. Number 2 son has 102 fever in the daycare center. Such is the day-to-day life of parenthood. But it's a labor of love (of another type).

Glad to know I can count on you. Especially when dealing with these pesky people.
I had two but then there was an...um...incident. Perhaps a fur lined obi for these darn winter months.

Bill
Hope number 2 son is feeling better soon.
But there are OTHER methods besides those endorsed by the medical community. And while we are on this subject. Any thoughts on the use of magnets for maintaining balance and improved health?

JD
Just how many personalities do you have sharing your body? So far I have counted three.

Buy a cactus. The PETA folks can't bitch when the plant fights back.
