Very cool, Mike. And what do we take from this?

1) Habitual acts of violence are just that.

2) There are only so many ways to bend the human body. Great minds think alike.

3) This supports Patrick McCarthy's premise that works such as these predated many Asian arts, and some of these early artists (may have) had access to the works. Hence we shouldn't be surprised at the similarities.

Which is the cart, and which is the horse? Who influenced whom? And does it matter? :wink:

Don't really matter at all. :D

The HAPV seem to be the best explaination to many of the moves in kata that I've seen yet. I've now seem the same attacks used by some old Dutch guys and a Man Mountain in a pizza joint. I think that Patrick fella may be on to something.

Per some sources, Europe had a rich history of unarmed combat techniques that can be likened to Asian martial arts, however they declined due to increasing dominance of firearms and were thus lost to the sands of time except for what written documents survive. Groups like ARMA are trying to re-discover this tradition.
