Ancient Health Wisdom Skeptic

I tend to be skeptical of ancient health practices since I know at least three who died young or were gruesomely crippled after refusing modern medicine and relied on wholistic health practices. Thomas Hale's "Don't Let the Goats Eat the Loquat Trees" book is filled with horror stories of people in Nepal relying on shamans for healings, but finding their condition worsening.

Greed can influence alternative medicine even more than scientific pills. They often are unregulated. A con-artist can sprinkle a bit of Vitamin C powder in his snake oil potion and grow wealthy selling it as back pain healer.

One example of the worst type of ancient health practices is the American natives using tobacco for medicine.

Today's modern medicine has proven that tobacco is nasty stuff.
