Uechi mechanics--Be confortable

I'll be getting into lots of things on this forum. There is one thing I'd like to express clearly. I am first and foremost a teacher of Uechi ryu. I will not just be talking about fighting. My look at mechanics go into all aspects of your training. That means kata, drills, kumite, two person sets, e...

First Week

Please let me make this statement before I begin. "I do not expect everyone to agree with my viewpoints. I quess thats why pencils have erasers". I've been looking over my book "Explosive Karate", for some help in what I"d like to say. Lets start at the beginning. Make no mi...

The Old Man and the Dog

Try to read it all. Believe it or not,,,it can touch home. The Old Man and the Dog by Catherine Moore 'Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!' My father yelled at me. 'Can't you do anything right?' Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me,...

Hello from Art Rabesa.

Hi everyone, this is my first venture into the world of computers. My youngest daughter thinks I suffer from geezerism. I will try my best to discuss my thoughts on my training and teaching explosive Uechi-Ryu. In my intro to my book "Explosive Karate", I mention that learning from the pri...

Hello Van

Thanks for the nice intro. One little thing though. I wish I could run the 100 meters in 10 seconds. It was actually 100 yards. Yards - meters? ah what the hell.

I believe both of Art Rabesa's books, "KUMITE" and "Explosive Karate" are available at the Uechi Store. If not, I suggest you contact George Mattson,
at GMattson@uechi-ryu.com

I think he can probably direct you to the books.

Art and I both came, maybe to his chest, 240 lbs. The video started out with Art and Glenn on an elevat...

Hi Fred, Arthur did make a video tape maybe 15 or more years ago. I have a copy somewhere. Though I helped him with it, I really can't remember what it contained. Maybe Art has a copy. All I remember is, as usual, I was one of the demo bags. :D I'll see what I can dig up. Good hearing from you ole b...

Sensei Rabesa

How surprised and pleased I was when George Mattson called me with the good news that my sensei, Art Rabesa would be heading up a forum on the Uechi Site. It was a bigger surprise, (since he didn't warn me), that the picture used to introduce Art's forum would be one of me once more on the receiving...

Old timer's thoughts.

I especially like number 1 Lot of wisdom in this one !! To all you old law dogs now just lyin' in the shade, current pistoleros, and other fervent Second Amendment believers: I would rather be your friend, but if you are not interested in that, I am prepared to be a capable and efficient enemy. This...

TAPS

I was going through some old boxes and found a lot of my old military papers. I found a copy of the TAPS we hear at military funerals and veterans will remember evening TAPS when we faced in the direction of the flag and saluted. To you who may not know the words, I thought you may find this interes...

I have several friends who have gone through the hip replacement. They have all been successful. However, I don't know of any who would attempt kicking. My problem was a massive tumor that ate a large part of my pelvic bone and hip away. Bone healing drugs helped me but I don't dare do any kicking. ...

I'm glad you remember that Rabesa Kata. The story gets better with each telling. I am going to dig out that tape one of these days. Your are right Van, it looked great, especially to us students. I was maybe a shodan or nidan. We didn't know any better until he told me later. The "confrontation...

Bill, I could be wrong but wasn't that Miyagi at one of George's summer camps at Thompson Island? I think he lead the exercises from up on the platform. I am thinking he may also have been the Okinawan champion for several years. Again I could be wrong. Also, I'm not sure what year, it could have be...

George, please have Susan give Al and Mary my email address. He has to know that his karate training IS NOT over. We know that but if he has his doubts, he needs encouragement. I thought it was over for me too. Yet,,here I am. Thanks,
Bill
