John, I have seen the kata in video performed by Gushi Sensei and performed by Senaga Sensei. Comparing them, I have to say that I like the Senaga performance because is more "technical" (but this is only my opinion) and it feels more powerful (Senagahas very powerful karate & kobudo k...

Hello friends in the forum, the same concept expressed in this discussion came to mi mind reading this article, I think it is extracted from one of the books of Sensei Mattson. I do not have the books now; but I do have the article in: http://cablemodem.fibertel.com.ar/diegokarate/articulos/circonti...

¿Ryuko?

I think I have seen this kata performed in Shorin-ryu. Dana: do you know if this Ryuko is the same one from shorin-ryu style?

Sensei Glasheen:

Talking about superimpei kata, I wonder if the Sifu of Simon Lailey, (If I am not wrong it is Shushiwa's nephew) in his style of kung-fu perform the other katas (sanchin, seisan and sanseryu) ?

Thanks in advance,
Diego

Shimpa Kata

I used to practice Shimpa Kata, time ago when I belonged to Motobu-ha Shito-ryu. Personally I see some things from Uechi-ryu, actually very few things. My personal viewpoint is that may be Mabuni express only a couple of concepts taken from Uechi-ryu tiger techniques in this kata; because the Kata e...

Dana's Sanchin is very powerfull, nice moves; but I must admit that I never saw anyone performing this coiling moves previous to the thrust. May be what I do not understand is how subtle this coiling moves should be. Dana, I have a couple of questions: - when you are tested (sanchin kitae), do you p...

Hi to all, I am agree that a Minimum should exists and if a candidate is below that minimum he should not pass. The candidates who are in doubt about their condition should have the oportunity to make a "pre-test", just to be sure of their level (avoiding a failure is better, considering t...

Hello to All, I never went to a Sumer Camp (only to the 2003 Uechi Tournment), but I am planing to go for the next Summer Camp. Raffi: ...Why take another class on Seisan Bunkai which I do 2-3 times a week... In my case, going 3 times a week to learn it is "heaven". Being faraway from my S...

Thankyou very much

The interpretation of question (a) is OK. mikemurphy Some people consider the actual blocking hand in a Wauke block to be the arm that is making the circle. I teach my students that this is not entirely true. I tell them that the parrying hand (as Bill Sensei says) is the actual block while the circ...

a couple of questions about basics

Last week after a workout, one student ask me some questions. The fact make me recall when I made the same questions to my Sensei. Also I remembered having read the answers in past posts. So I decided to post the questions, to see the different visions of Senseis who contribute in the forums. a) Why...

WHITE

In my case, I think white is better, because I used to practice kobudo, and I only have to change the top for a black one.
