One of the fellows I train with keeps his nails short enough to make a fist, but long enough to use -- a few months ago he got a little too close to my face during a drill and gave me a really good cut. I must admit I was impressed -- yes, it was accidental, but it was also entirely effortless!! 8O...

Thanks Robb.

Honestly, the site needs a serious revision right now, but I just haven't gotten to it yet. Soon, I hope.

No complaints here either. Truth be told, it really doesn't bother me one way or another. The question was asked, so I answered.

I don't post as much lately for a couple of reasons. 1. I'm self-employed in a tough economy. Frankly, I need to be devoting time to a lot of other things. 2. While I wouldn't say the forums have jumped the shark, there is a certain predictably that occurs sometimes (see Bill vs. Justin, round 8000,...

Interesting. I don't do a lot of bench-based exercises, but maybe I'll play with these on my next strength day.

Hey Shana, Glad the links helped. I have a few other reviews of different products up there, if you hunt around. I've come to really enjoy S&C over the last few years, so I've been slowly devouring whatever resources I can get my hands on. I honestly don't know what you mean by "Y and T&quo...

Shana,

Here's a review of NG that I did on my blog a while back, if it helps.

Shana, I know nothing about any of those books, but I'm going very heartily recommend Ross Enamait's material. His stuff is smart, effective, and you get more bang for your buck than just about any S&C resource I've ever looked at. Ross's stuff has become the core of my S&C routines at this ...

I wrap my hands if I've doing long or seriously heavy amounts of bag or pad work. Otherwise, my hands feel like crap the next day.

At the risk of jumping into a conversation where I'm somewhat ignorant...I think Fred and Bill might both be right, and Fred and Bill might also both be wrong. I think that Bill has a point, in that, within the movements of the various Uechi kata, there's probably some that are of use in trying to e...

We use that photo a lot during PDR courses. Tom Arcuri did a great dissection of it during his seminar at Sityodtong this past November. Great teaching tool.

It's my understanding that the biggest risk is to bone/joint development...so you don't want to even come close to maximum stress load! That's why power lifting at this age is considered a bad idea. You can build strength, endurance, and muscle fatigue with lighter weights/more reps...I don't think...

Maybe put together a split routine for her? Work on different body parts/areas on different days. I realize it's not necessarily the ideal, but if she really wants to lift every day, it might be easier to convince her to do that than to try and keep her from lifting. "5. Work more reps; avoid m...

I'm not bill, but I've used Tabata's as part of my conditioning protocol, and love 'em. I use 'em for my students too. They don't really love them, per se, but they do get results :-D I usually do them in groups of longer sets (say, four exercises, four sets, for a total of sixteen minutes of pure h...
