My only arguement is that MMA may stagnate. Oh it will always be full contact with as relaxed rules as possible. But not enough people will try to innovate, because do succeed they may not have time to experiment, they can only stick to what they know for sure. Like people look at Chuck's punches a...

Jake, I did not intend to imply that all boxers could not develope power. I am a good example of making my point. I boxed in the service, and I was not a heavy hitter. I worked on my power and increased it somewhat. After a number of years in Uechi training, I started hitting with extreme power. Wo...

[quote="caddybill"] In boxing, power is generally having it, or not having it. Born with it, or not. A boxer who does not have power will generally go through his entire career a a light puncher.[ /quote] I can't speak to the rest of your post, but this is simply and patently untrue. Boxer...

Interesting. Did you have previous training, which you've since stopped practicing? Or did you do this years ago, and now have moved on to other things? (You said this has been ongoing research for 33 years, but I had the impression that you had only recently started on this three year Sanchin proje...

Max,

I'm not a Uechi-ka (or at least, haven't been one for several years), so I may be missing something here, but, just so I'm clear...

Are you doing nothing but the Sanchin kata for three years? No sparring, no drills, nothing else?

Dave,

Did he mention (or did you ask?) if any of his students had used the tactic in a real altercation?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7107762519414136368&q=karate+fighting+clips I've spend about 15 years living on military bases and I've had some military training as well. From where I sit these guys making the video are pretty much on the money. I liked the video, very informative. The...

This one has been floating around for a bit. I believe the short version is, the younger gent, a karate and bjj practitioner, challenged the older gent, saying his stuff was bunk. They had an agreement that if the older gent lost, he would shut down his dojos, and retire in shame, yadda, yadda. No i...

Enh...seems a little suspect to me. Admittadly, I'm not a huge expert on Muay Thai history, but I've never heard of a "Dark Lord of Muay Thai", and it sounds like a ridiculous story. More so with all of the "flying triple attack" nonsense that's sprinkled throughout it. It's a cu...

In Jack Dempsey's book on boxing, he advocated striking with the three lower knuckles. It spread the surface area and brings the fragile hand bones in line with the forearm bones more naturally and more evenly than forcing the two big knuckles into alignment. It was a new idea for me but seems to w...

Chalk me up as another guy who loves boxing. My studies of it have slacked a bit lately (time constraints), but it's a wonderful art. Sadly, most MMA fighters don't have good Muay Thai or good boxing. Mirko Cro Cop is an exception; Brandon Vera may be as well. In Muay Thai, the quality of boxing var...
