Really pathetic and downright infuriating. A @#$# rubber band, level 4 offense. Jesus wept, have educators parked their brains before they enter a school. You'd of had to expel my entire grade 4 class. I wish we received a nickel for every rubber band, spit ball, and errant piece of paper tha...

I'm sure you're right, Bill, about it being an urban legend. What I was noticing, though, when I saw this thing circulating around the internet and people's emails was that a lot of people thought of red hammer and couldn't figure out why. They thought it was some magical hocus pocus that was taking...

Years ago, my family and some neighbours saw a UFO in the night sky that was reported in the Toronto Star the following morning and was also reported seen in Europe. They had a picture in the paper that matched what we saw as well as those in Sweden (I think, too long ago). It appeared to be a giant...

I've seen several variations of this. The math is a distraction. They'd get the same result if you ask people to come up with a colour and a tool. Somebody explained to me it's because we've seen so many signs, etc. of red hammers and most people, including those who are carpentry challenged have ha...

These people seem to be displacing their lack of safety smarts onto the SUV. I agree and have to wonder, there are many large vehicles - panel vans (including those without rear window), pick-ups, mini-vans, etc. where something similar could happen. It's the driver, not the vehicle, in my opinion....

It seems silly not to teach breakfalling and rolling because of time constraints or it not being a 'part of your style' I agree. It doesn't take much to get the basics and falling, tripping, slipping, take downs happen so let's learn how to hit the pavement safely. Bill, good points as there...

Bill, you'd have a better idea of some of the body movement with this one given your background. You don't need too much lift, just enough to get him moving forward and your body movement, especially with the hips projects the person forward or if they want to hang on for the ride you look up as you...

Great thread and Mike your post was very inspiring and left me considering some of the ways I've explored Uechi. Bill, you give great examples of Uechi movements that traslate well into grappling. Wish I had time right now to add more to the discussion but Bill you reminded me of the first time I le...

I did not personally know Al but I would like to express my condolences to his family and to all those who knew him. I understand Al contributed much to the Uechi world; a big loss for is family, friends, and the Uechi world.

we must also train to not get stuck in the idea of seeing locks/throws as discreet events. These things flow out of opportunities and the opportunity for a lock can be fleeting. I've had a number of experiences in sparring where locks present themelves as opportunities but cannot be finished for a n...

Jim, right, WC is Chi sao, specific to your art. Stick hands, the more generic term I guess, dervied from various practices in Tai Chi. At any rate it's still useful for sensing energy and working one's techniques from a sensitivity, giving and taking of energy. It's great for everything we do wheth...

Jim thanks again for the detailed response. You asked: From a contact standpoint WC is an energy art. Never heard of Chi Sao Mark? Actually, the dojo I train at, though not as much in the last several months, has been sticky hands for as far back as I can remember. It's an integral part of our train...

That's what I love about Bush. He seems to always be one step ahead of the scientists who have tried to persuade him otherwise.

Must be that C average education he got at Yale.

Bill, lots to think about but perhaps I'm unintentionally ruffling feathers as we pretty much agree on what's being suggested in this thread. Bill said: Why shouldn't we "kid ourselves?" Because Mike is smart enough to step outside the Okinawan interpretation of Kanbun's style, does that m...

Bill, your comments are interesting on a number of levels. A centerline posture exists in Uechi Sanchin. It's at the end of the form, and is called "closed temple gate." Good point, and this is something I've seen sensei David Mott do, fighting with a closed gate puching, both blocking/con...
