Jim said: Regardless of what structure you use, if any, we need to enter, when using the wa-uke or whatever tools and concepts we must attack the attack. A ‘block’ should always be paired with a hit and some kind of body movement that moves us into the kill zone in order to end the threat. When he a...

Could someone please spell out "IMO" for me. I have acronym dyslexia. I'm not sure if there was a mis-reading of my comment about us being honest with ourselves about what we're doing with Uechi blocking/re-directing etc. Certainly I don't advocate such an approach, the block then punch mo...

I agree with Bill and Jim that blocking must be done purposefully with the intent to gain positional advantage. That being said, if all your block did was keep you from getting hit then you've certainly accomplished something - not getting struck and living to return the favour. And if we're being h...

I agree with Laird too. I think that there can be too much empahsis put on making the pointy techniques into iron fist techniques. I work elbows against the punching bag in my basement but I don't whack away at steel ball bearings. In partner work we work elbows but SLOW; what works, for me, in the ...

If you attack me (or my coworker)I can flip and stack you faster than you can blink if you go to my left.   Oh man, sign me up. Ringer-ryu. Love it. Extremely effective, I'm sure, against multiple opponents in terms of stacking them. One thing this thread is reminding of re training...

There's a good lesson for us, Danny. It sounds like your younger brother shows his strength in how he is built. This is something that translates to the street in terms of looking at people and getting a quick sense of their strengths and possibe weaknesses. You wouldn't want to get grabbed by someo...

One of my closest friends owns a small metal and plastics recyling company, and he basically has his hands literally in all the operations. He works regularly, almost daily with heavy materialis, usually steel, copper, etc. often hand bailing the items himself. He's about 5'8" and weighs 165lbs...

Akil, you make some good points and I agree it's hard not to be cynical about US intentions given the history of American intervention in Iraq. In terms of what this election will ultimately mean for Iraq, it's hard to say. Two things that give me pause are that Shia Muslims are approximately 60% of...

Hi Bill, interesting post.

The article posted here by Robert Fisk is pretty good, capturing the main challenges for this election and realities on the ground. Interested to know what you think.

The "tst", or hissing sound, is a fundamental part of Dave Mott's teaching. I'll say a bit here, but I hope he will post in response to this because he is the expert. Often the problem is that people simply make the sound and don't connect it to their abdomen, or tan tien. I've learned thi...

Hi Bill,

I've been very busy lately and getting ready for the birth of our second child, which should be any day now.

So the Sox finally did it. Amazing after so many years. I'm sure there was a lot of partying last night as a result. Hope you were part of it. :D

All the best,

Mark

Moore is a celebrity "journalist". USA retained him for his attention/readership grabbing potential so he'll sell some papers. I wouldn't expect too much objective journalism from him given the situation, and I'm a liberal. It was the same deal when Canada's, The National Post, hired Lind ...

Problem is there is a level 2 sex offender registered 4 houses down the street, and another one working at the gas station across the street from the donut shop. Wow, that is a scary scenario having these sex offenders in the neighbourhood. Your daughters are young and probably do not have the stre...

This was my first camp and I enjoyed it immensley. I took my sensei's cue (David Mott); he said to avoid his classes and check out other people. Overall, the camp exposed me to a lot of different techniques and ideas and this was my main goal, to do something off the traditional path. That being sai...

Bill, your points are well taken and you're right in saying that a correlation, not causality, is what's being shown. No argument that it's better to assume causality in terms of immunization. I'm aware you have a science background but I wasn't sure what your main gig is. You have an understanding ...
