I think it's OK to say you hate President Bush, despise President Clinton or even say that Jimmy Carter is a self promoting boob. That's politics. But to say you're ashamed to be an American is something else.

I got all excited that the Jets were going to pull it off. They did well, so maybe next year. At least Rich and my son are happy. :D Jeff, did you know that the Great Escape was playing on TCM at the same time as the game? My oldest son was watching that and kept commenting on how Steve McQueen is t...

But a single Sanchin thrust at the beginning of Kanshu before that nifty sequence I like (and is echoed in seiryu) could actually be a literal technique to the suprasternal notch. That sequence is very rich in targeted, sequential strikes. You can really get the bad guy going from one technique to ...

Themes in bridge kata?

Not being able to make class last night I decided to take a stab at Kanshu to try to get a better feel for Uechi; I managed to get the gross movements down up to the jump. One thing I noticed is that it has a very different feel than Kanshiwa. Kanshiwa, to me , seems somewhat incomplete, a series of...

For me it's chilling with some Beach Boys, Brian Setzer or some cool jazz from the 50's. Whenever I was sparring I always listened to Metallica before hand.

plus real-fights tend to last nano seconds and not 10 rounds True, but an intense 10 second fight can leave you drained. Figure in also that you may have to make a run for it in the real world with the fight happening either before or after. Make sure that your cardio is good. Good advice Bill. I'm...

I think it's hard to try and qualify if Uechi is less effective as a personel protection tool now, than it was back when Kanbun was doing it. First we're picking one person, Kanbun, and comparing the entire Uechi-Ryu family against him. I very much doubt I'm more effective than Kanbun was but if we ...

Double edged for sure Bill. After that gal ran into my car while trying to dial her cell phone we were able to call the police with it. Don't know what we would have done without it. But they are great tools when used correctly and have saved quite a few lives.

Randy, Besides TGOF and Strong on Defense I thought Obsession by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker was a good add on. It goes into the the motivations of hunters like Robert Chambers, Ted Bundy and others. It also gets into what they saw in their victims. A couple that are fun reads while being good ar...

Glad you are here Mr. Cook and I've enjoyed what I've read by you.

Leo, you can still get it but now it's Classical Fighting Arts. Still good, still not published often enough.
