Hi Bill,

Thanks again. That does make things clearer. Particularly the difference between the static and dynamic stretch reflex. Although I know what a derivative is, please don't ask me to work one out :)

Regards,
Wayne

Thanks for that, I can see what you mean about giving the actin and myosin fliaments an optimum amount of room for the molecules to "grip" and slide. However, I'm not sure I can picture how prestretching the muscles can optimise the amount of ATP available. It's been a long time since I st...

Dear Bill Sensei, Great posts. Thanks for that. Although I don't practice Uechi-rytu myself, I think you've very eloquently described concepts that all karate people should be aware of. One question I have though, is how do muscles actually store energy in plyometric type exercises? I can see how sp...

Hi Marcus,

Was that you I saw posting on the KSL? Are you back in NZ now? I know a couple of Koryu Uchinadi instructors in Auckland and Hamilton (great guys, too). If you want, I can PM there details to you (if you don't know them already)

Cheers,

Howdy all, Please excuse me for chiming in. I'm far more of a lurker than a poster (as can be seen from my post count). It's great everyone enjoyed McCarthy Sensei's visit to VA. At the risk of sounding like a groupie, exposure to a little of PM's karate magic has totally changed my outlook on the m...

Every now and then I train with a bunch of karate guys in a prominent East London boxing gym, some of whom work in construction while others moonlight as bouncers. To look at them, one wouldn't think that they amounted to much - not particularly muscular and a few look overweight. However, they are ...

Yes, Oshiro No Kon is one of the Bo kata practiced by Patrick McCarthy's group. Although I'm a student of Koryu Uchinadi, I'm actually not really sure if the kobudo we do is part of the KU curriculum or if it's separate. PM awards separate grades for empty hand and weapons. One thing that struck me ...

Thanks guys. It's much easier coming out of hiding knowing there's another Kiwi around. Don't want to be the butt of all the Sheep jokes on my own now, do I? In some ways, I feel like I'm cheating a bit, as it seems like I kind of know many of you already through reading these forums. While there's ...

Hi Stryke,

Thanks very much for the welcome.

Actually I've just checked the Shishoshin I uploaded, and I noticed that the very end of the kata has been lopped off (ran out of web-space). The missing bits is simply the return to Yame and closing bow.

Cheers,

Hi there, I've been a long time lurker on these forums for ages now, but I thought it I'd just de-cloak to say hello. The insights offered by the various teachers have been of great benefit to me, and for that I'd like to say thanks. I've found this thread to be especially fascinating. I've never tr...
