Hockey dad trial
I don't remember if this was discussed fully on the forums before, but anyways... I was watching the news and they had a sigment about when the hockey dad took the chair. If you don't remember, there were two dads at a children's hockey game. They got into a fight and one got killed. One was 150 pds...

Interested in some Uechi books....
Well, I'll pitch my hat in. I can't promise much, but I'm just about guaranteed to scrounge up the money to pay for a copy of the book.

Interested in some Uechi books....
Uechi-ryu 2000 by Allen Moulton is deffinately the best book I've seen for use as a reference guide. (can't remember what the next move in kanshu was or have the footing wrong? look it up) For history, a good book is Alan Dollar's (forgot the title) For general use, I recommend the red book, forget ...

Has anyone else notced that you Uechi-ryu guys practice xing
Nice to see you on here Glenn! http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/smile.gif Well, first I think we should go back as far as we know, Shushiwa. From what I know, Shushiwa was something of an eclectic. Given this piece alone, I don't think we can trace back Uechi to any singular style. Adam Finally, ...

Talk about Tae Kwon Do
As before, all dojangs are different, but... TKD was my first martial art. I'm a quick learner so I soared through the ranks. However, somewhere around purple (or was it blue), I realized how bad my basics were. So, I went to the teacher and told him I wanted to be a white belt again and train back ...

Talk about Tae Kwon Do
I used to be in TaeKwonDo, but I practice karate now, as I found karate fit me more than TaeKwonDo in many ways.

Gold belt
Reminds me of a guy who claimed to be trained by someone with a rainbow belt... Supposedly had to do with mastering 3 martial arts. Belts are self awarded or the sign of what some organization (politics and all) thought you should wear. Oh yeah, add on Rainbow Belt onto the question. Anybody else he...

Karate in the quad cities
I was planning on that already David http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/wink.gif I'm one of another dave's students. Chicago would be closer than lincoln wouldn't it? I wouldn't do it too often mind you, but it's good to know I'm not developing any bad habits when working on my own. Thanks http://w...

Karate in the quad cities
Well, I'm moving to Davenport Iowa in a couple months (part of the quad cities area) and I was wondering if anyone knew of any uechi-ryu and/or good karate in the area. You know, something easier than driving a couple hours to Chicago. http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/wink.gif Adam future chiropr...

Martial artist or Uechi stylist ?
Well, I'd consider myself a martial artist. I started in TKD actually, but almost all of the style I would use in a situation is from Uechi. The basic reason that I call myself a martial artist is because I don't limit myself. If I identified myself as a Uechi stylist, I would feel compelled to shy ...

Defining a master.
In the organization I used to be a part of, 5th dan was the official "master" rank. Then they worked up to "grandmaster" which was 9th or 10th (forgot which). One of the reasons why I left actually... I think that a true master would never consider himself such. His cup would be ...

tournaments
Well, I competed in a tournament a few weeks ago. (all karate styles) If your tournament is anything like mine, don't expect any set of rules, because they'll make them up right before sparring starts. (before the all the sparring starts) But student is right, ask around, to make sure you know what ...

Have Martial Artists Corrupted Defensive Tactics Training?
A few chords were struck for me in this article... The one I'll comment on is the same one I heard from a visiting instructor. Prearranged drills (I think he was talking about kanshiwa bunkai at that moment) are good for a beginner, but you need to toss them away after awhile, because you don't know...

End of a journey?
I was originally going to name this thread without the question mark, but while thinking about it, I knew that wouldn't be appropriate. What is it like to have been in martial arts for 30+ years and to step up to a board, ready to test for your 8th degree black belt? The question is for any of those...

Skin and again
The topic came up in anatomy class today about skin and the way aging effects it. Basically, it was said that the skin looses it's elasticity and weakens. Some people even gave accounts of ripping older people's skin on accident. So, how do we adjust to this in our dojo? How do we handle those with ...
