what about YOU?

Isshinryu-6 years. Freestyle Jiu-Jitsu-blended in with the Isshin-6 years. Shodan-not interested in rank anymore. Students-three males, I do not rank them, we just train together, their skill or lack of speaks for itself. One is my first cousin who has not trained since he submitted me after about o...

Yes Sir, Isshinryu for life. I live in Louisiana...the style is strong around here. I know one of Master Long's students, a good man by the name of Neal Simpson...do you know him? I also have done some internet talking with Dan Glover...if I remember correctly he sent me some "Dit da jow" ...

I am often wrong, but I thought I read that Uechi and Myagi both studied with Higgaona (Sp?). Myagi changed Sanchin to closed fist, Uechi kept the original open-hand.

Who is traditionally credited with teaching Sanchin to Master Uechi if not Higgaona?

Much to learn,

Greetings Sunsu8, I believe our Seisan comes from the Shorin side through Kyan Sensei. And in addition to Sanchin we have Seiunchin kata from Goju-Ryu. We are like you in that we have uncovered much grappling in our kata. I think we also share Kanryo Higgaona's influence with our Uechi-brothers. Who...

Looking for Seisan Video

There is a discussion on an Isshinryu site about trying to get back to the Chinese Roots of Okinawan Karate and away from the linear robot-like movements of Japanese influence. I remember seeing a clip of Evan Pantazzi performing Seisan Kata on his Kyusho forum...very smoothe and circular...well see...

Removal of a submitted Article???

Sensei Mattson, I was only trying to see straight into the heart of the matter and avoid conflict, and I did not intend to be disrespectful. I work as an Occupational Health Nurse and have seen many cut-and-dry workman's comp. cases drawn out for years by the skillful manipulation of the "lette...

Removal of a submitted Article???

Sensei, I realize that you were wanting to discuss the issue of treating internet content the same as other media... I didn't intend to turn this into something else...but isn't that what we are all about, seeing straight into the heart of a matter and then ending it with one swift stroke of the swo...

Removal of a submitted Article???

If I operated a discussion forum and a fellow martial artist asked me to remove something he/she wrote, I would remove it.

P.S. And I would not feel the need to ask for a lawyer's opinion.

"A quick bit of advice; if you want to be good at fighting, practice fighting ... if you want to be good at meditating, practice meditation."

I say,

"Master one thing (meditation, fighting, brushing your teeth) and you will understand the essence of all things."

good technique or not?

Helloooo, Didn't mean to kill the thread with my ignorance----hello. The point I am trying to make is that I don't understand the divisions in the martial arts (karate, JJ, Kung-Fu, etc.) I suspect that there is one original master-system that encompasses (Sp?)all of these arts. From what I have rea...

Good technique, Apply appx. 5Lbs of pressure (single action) to the trigger of my Beretta .40 S&W. If this doesn't work, run like hell http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/biggrin.gif I love knee/groin strikes, throat nukites, eye scratches---and spitting in someones face to give me time to do th...

Akuma-Shogun-San, I don't know how old you are so I don't know if you will be able to relate to this example, but---Have you ever been playing a video game and it seemed that you were just playing the game without having to think about it, kind of like being on auto-pilot, then the minute you starti...
