does anyone like grappeling? besides me?

Laura, Monor clarification: Know your basics "as well as" you know your own name----second nature http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/wink.gif Base---in baseball for example---the place where you are safe from harm. In Jiu jitsu--the place where you launch your strategy from. A place of ca...

does anyone like grappeling? besides me?

Laura wrote, "As far as defending against this move, my defense right now is a good offense. Which is weak at best. Still very new to BJJ. So please do share." Keep up the good offense. Early in my ground fighting days I found myself almost falling into the guard, like this was my only opt...

finishes from side mount

T-Rose, I love the key lock (see other thread) and the Kimura (kind of a reverse key lock). I think it is also called a "Chicken-wing" in some styles like Gene Labell's (sp?) system. I have also seen some submissions from the old "knee in the stomach" from the side mount. Lots of...

does anyone like grappeling? besides me?

Karate-guy, I study Isshinryu karate, and freestyle JJ. Favorite-move? Rear-naked choke---because it works on everyone regardless of size or training. LAC-by paintbrush do you mean a key-lock? One arm under elbow of opponent reinforcing your other hand holding opponents wrist---then "paint"...

Pronounciation

Nowhere near an expert on pronunciation, but I have heard it as "Way-she-ryu". I have also heard "Ryu" pronounced with almost a "D" sound at the start (like "drew" with a rolling "r" sound). Side note---Okinawan's have trouble with the "L" ...

Kata Classical Jazz – a Magnum Opus

Victor, I think your article would make an excellent addition to the Isshinkai or any other Isshinryu site. You can change the Superman-reference to "he's a super-guy" to keep Harril Sensei off your case;-) Isn't it strange that different sites have different personalities, and things you ...

GRACIE

Joe, I live in Louisiana, lucky me. I want to say that yes, I do study BJJ, but I have to say, no, not officially. I study Isshinryu karate, Yang Tai Chi, and Kundalini Yoga. The Jiu-Jitsu we study comes from creative interpretation of our Isshinryu kata---full of throws, locks, and ground fighting....

GRACIE

Hi Joe, I am very envious of the opportunity to train with one of my heroes, wish I could be there. It hurt me to see Renzo's elbow dislocated by Sakuraba a few Prides back, damnit!!!Renzo had that fight. I only saw Renzo act un-gentleman-like on one occasion---after his fight with a Judoka named St...

forbidden art

Dear Satan, Could you be referring to Falun-gong or Falun Dafa? It is a forbidden spiritual martial art, and is supposed to cause insanity in some practitioners. I don't know about knocking an opponent back several feet, but the founder is supposed to be able to levitate. Run a search in this forum ...

Rickson Gracie

I am not here to start a Gracie fan-club page, but I have so much respect and admiration for Rickson Gracie that I had to post this quote from him. Opinions about the man??? I leave you here with the words that Rickson spoke at the private party after the victory in Colosseum 2000: “For quite some t...

Escaping the Rear-Mount (with hooks sunk)

Rick-San, Yes, eyes and genitalia are always good options, but you must attack these areas before the choke is sunk. If you have never been choked properly, you don't know the desperation of feeling your lights go out---the only thing you are thinking about is sleep, wonderful sleee----p;-) Mal (tha...
