Bill, The reason we have passionate arguments when we agree in principle is primarily for the purpose of getting information out there. I think that the nature of arguments in a public forum is for the debators to use each other as a vehicle to express ideas, and then to shape them through the argum...

Thanks Bill. A very thoughtful reply. However, as you might expect; a rebuttal. Being familiar with the behaviorist model from a performance perspective, I recognize that it isn't altruism that encourages the process of achievement. In fact, that notion is the great failed experiment of Socialism. I...

Getting to the point

Getting to the Point Rank and Title are important to different people for different reasons. As I read the debate, it becomes clear that the battle for correctness lies in coming to an agreement for the very purpose of having rank and title. It is our task to determine, organizationally what these t...

Nice to see you Harry

I enjoyed working with you and Suzanne at the Winterfest. If you continue to argue with her about Global Warming, you probably should get my number on speed dial. You might get shot sooner than planned!

Thanks for joining us.

Bill, Sorry we missed you. You always have so much to offer -it would have been great if you could have made it.There is, as they say, always next year. Thanks John for your notes. I am sorry you had to endure the return to the frigid North. Next year stay awhile. Lord knows our economy needs those ...

Finally...Winterfest comes together!

I just got back from Winterfest in Mt Dora, Florida. After several unsuccessful attempts to run a Fest in Florida, I was so happy to see the "full house" that George promised. The Rec center was packed with students! There was a strong New England delegation and plenty of Southern folks al...

Thanks Zak10w40,

I like the idea of using chess as a vehicle for developing operational skills. I only wish I understood the game well enough to be the master that could impart its profound lessons on others. I'll have to seek out some true Chess experts to pull this off. Thanks for the ideas!

These last few posts pose some very intriguing issues. First to Mike and the tounge in cheek comment about getting out of the dojo being the equivalent of no longer doing karate. I am certain that alot of people believe exactly that and this is clearly THE problem with reality style combat. To those...

It is hard for us to believe that the proper response to sudden aggressive attacks may already be built in. As Carl Jung described the collective unconscious, he proposed that human experiences can actually be passed on through the generations as sort of a psychological DNA. If true, combat has to b...

Hmmmm

So here is a good glimpse into the ugliness of combat. No pre-arranged movements, no pre-arranged responses. Only a sudden primal survival reaction that leaves the attacked cut in almost every case. Notice the instructor shouts only to get the knife. There is no shouts about knee to the stomach, str...

Chess Anyone?

In the police business we use the term 5% as a euphemism for someone who in actual combat is ready and prepared to prevail under any circumstance no matter how difficult, horrifying or violent. It calls attention to our own Clarence Wilder, who did so remarkably well on his Hachidan test at Summer c...

Hi Dave, Just wanted to chime in here regarding this forum. I explained to several people at camp that we have to be careful in sending the wrong message with the REALITY heading and what it actually means. I think we are both in agreement that our discussions are not intended to be exclusive of tra...

Shito-Ryu

George - I got word today that a group of Shito-Ryu karate-ka will join us for WINTERFEST. They are a great group of folks from Ft Myers area that I trained with many years ago. The diversity of this WINTERFEST is really getting neat. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
