Re: Van Canna & Nev Kimbrell

Yup...

I guess those were the reasons why all the 'world champions' of other styles in the Boston area, wanted to come up to our dedicated sparring classes to try us out.

Fun days.

Re: ART'S LESSON --

This is where I found the 'seisan jump back' useful. Performed with jumping to the front with the left knee/shin up and 'plunging' into the kicks, all kinds of them, just as they were on the way in...this 'smothering' move as we see Art demonstrate...shut down very powerful kicks...as a matter of fa...

Re: Infighting in Self Defense

No question about it. In fighting is a life saver, and it is a defensive component worthy of incessant practice along with the other aspects of personal protection.

And another very effective strike to think about is the vicious head butt.

We have a picture of Bill on a table in the alcove of the Bridgewater dojo...smiling and looking at every move we make on the floor...he is with us always.

Re: KISS

Good post. It is the striking power that ends the problem, if the problem requires it.

Re: My thoughts on Blocking

Master Toyama's teachings were that: Steps
in kata do not teach the practitioner to step forward, they are merely
exercises in shifting the body center. Can be forward, backward,
sideways, 90-degree step-offs with blocks that trap and lock joints.
