Re: false dichotomy

Here's a multichotomy that I like to consider as I do what I do in our martial arts world. Art . Do or lifestyle . Sport -- Judo, BJJ, Boxing, MMA, Kendo, Fencing, wrestling, etc. . Exercise/fitness/health . Self-defense . Warfare . Cross-training -- Martial arts is useful for anyone in any sport - ...

Re: A view of hell from Kobani

Here is yet another example of the use of atrocity as a tactic of war by ISIS. Apparently amateurishly-executed beheadings and the serial raping of captive little girls are so ten minutes ago. Islamic State Releases Video Purporting to Show Jordanian Pilot’s Death By ASA FITCH, SUHA MA’AYEH and MARI...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

THis is why I own an AWD Subaru with the (low center-of-gravity) boxer engine. For the record, Porsche is the only other car company that uses a boxer engine design. If you know what you're doing, you're never really out of control. ..... Subaru Legacy Snow Drift ..... Subaru Impreza WRX STI snow dr...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

Ken Block is the man! He however is using a vehicle that isn't quite street legal (the understatement of the year).

A view of hell from Kobani

One of the unfortunate cancers in the world today is a primitive, anachronistic view of Islam based on literal teachings of Muhammad - a man who felt that his religion could be spread by the sword and "all was fair" in that regard. Lost souls throughout the world find a home in teachings w...

Re: false dichotomy

That's got to be one of my favorite logical fallacies to expose in a heated online debate.

Let me ponder that a bit. :)

Re: My Maserati does 185...

That's a souped-up version of the BRZ, which itself is a joint venture between Subaru and Toyota. Yes... my son always draws my attention to that vehicle when we are at the Subaru dealer. That's a RWD vehicle. I like my AWD. If I had a choice to go crazy, it would be a souped-up version of the WRX S...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

Fact is lightning can strike out of nowhere anytime. They say lightning never strikes twice in the same place. True story... A professor of mine in the biomedical engineering graduate school had his house struck by lightning. So the insurance company paid to have the partially damaged home repaired...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

I have my own thoughts on this. 1) Never, ever drink and drive. I almost never drink at all now. Too many depend on me, and I'm always the driver. Not drinking just makes it easy for me. There's never a question I'm ready to drive. There's never a conversation with a police officer at a stop about H...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

Back when I had a radar detector (the mid-1980s) it was the Escort Passport. I remember it now after reading these reviews. I had absolutely no complaints. As I figured... the manufacturers are ahead of the police. Again. The best are immune to the radar detector detectors. Interesting that they hav...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

Indeed! As I tell my students, the best fight is the one never fought. I rode a motorcycle as my only means of transportation for two years. It taught me a lot about defensive driving. Even a driving instructor who taught a course I took (in lieu of a speeding ticket that was forgiven) preached that...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

By the way... this is the car that got Jason Werth in trouble.

..... Jason Werth Porsche

I totally understand, Jason. 8)

Both this Porsche and my Subaru by the way have boxer engines. They're the only car brands that do. Very low center of gravity. A martial artist would get it.

Re: My Maserati does 185...

I agree about the "scatter". You get plenty of warning if they're flashing others on a busy highway. Another point here... Never be the slowest runner if a tiger is chasing a group, and never be the fastest driver on the highway if you're going too fast. This is where "flying below th...

Re: My Maserati does 185...

I see this... "Instant-On" Protection K-band radar guns have what's known as "Instant-On" radar. This keeps the transmitter in "hot standby" mode, ready to be activated by an officer when the target is within 200-300 yards. Practically speaking, you can't really defend...
