Even without that, Rio was an exciting choice. Bringing the Olympics to Chicago means nothing to most Americans. Our national pride is hardly on the line here. Probably most Chicagoans weren't thrilled about the possibility, either. Bringing the Olympics to Brazil seems like such a happy thing in every respect. It makes me happy for them.Bill Glasheen wrote: Such a HARD decision for the IOC...![]()
In principle I don't have a problem with the president advocating for the US even in such a shallow matter, but I think it was worth a roll of the eyes. Let other leaders demean their own offices; it is beneath the office of President of the United States, IMHO. I think, however, that he was in a situation where his personal loyalties compelled him to give it 100%, even if that were counterproductive. Having tried and lost, who can blame him now for not trying hard enough? All we can do is criticize him for trying too hard, which seems kind of lame on our parts, too. All this is worth is a shrug of the shoulders and moving on. Meanwhile, I'm happy for Brazil.
