Elbow Strike

Elbow Strike
During one of the Zoom classes, sensei Mattson described an elbow strike. No question it is a devastating strike because a thrusting elbow has a hard, boney, pointed edge and a lot of power. He admitted that it must be performed just right in order to stop a thug in his track. One issue I have is when using an elbow instead of a fist for a strike, you reduce your reach by roughly half. Any thoughts?

Often, the commute trains and busses are so crowded that the riders are pressed up on one another and can hardly move. During crowded events, I lose my best means of defense--running away.
