Sanchin Stance
Recently, we had a great discussion during the morning's basic daily exercise class. A textbook sanchin stance require the front foot to be slanted inward at a 45 degree angle while the rear foot to be straight. I heard from somewhere that the front foot is slanted a bit to better protect the bone from kicks. The back foot is straight to better guide the entire body to face forward. It's possible that the person will instinctively slant his body away from the opponent if both feet are slanted, being parallel. We habitually face where our feet are pointed. It's not easy. When the student advanced through the ranks, he can easily forget the basics. Even experts may accidently slant his rear foot. An injury may make it difficult to stretch the feet to their proper positions.
