TAPS

Post by Bill Bauknecht »

I was going through some old boxes and found a lot of my old military papers. I found a copy of the TAPS we hear at military funerals and veterans will remember evening TAPS when we faced in the direction of the flag and saluted. To you who may not know the words, I thought you may find this interesting. Here are the words that go along with the TAPS.

DAY IS DONE
GONE THE SUN
FROM THE LAKES
FROM THE HILLS
FROM THE SKY.
ALL IS WELL
SAFELY REST,
GOD IS NIGH.

FADING LIGHT
DIMS THE SIGHT
AND A STAR
GEMS THE SKY,
GLEAMING BRIGHT
FROM AFAR,
DRAWING NIGH
FALLS THE NIGHT.

THANKS AND PRAISE
FOR OUR DAYS
NEATH THE STARS,
NEATH THE SKY
AS WE GO
THIS WE KNOW
GOD IS NIGH.

We hear taps more than we would like, as our young people continue to give their lives for our country. God bless and keep our troops safe.
Bill B.
