Although a beta version, PC Magazine is giving it rave reviews. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of this NT replacement?

Windows 2000!!!
Here are several other places to read about it:
http://windows2k.hypermart.net/ and http://www.windows2000.org/
Looks like NT 4.0 with all the Service Packs plus a few extra goddies.
http://www.techweb.com/se/directlink.cgi?WIN19990615S0003 gives some straight talk about W2K. What it boils down to, George is that you will need a faster more powerful PC with lots more memory in order to get the same performance you already have with NT 4.0.
I remember I would write blazing fast software on a Kaypro 2-MHz CP/M machine with 64K of memory, that because of the software bloat of today, that software would run at a snail's pace on the current 500 MHz machines.

Windows 2000!!!
George,
I too agree with Allen, I have installed it on 3 different machines and only 1 could run it! Lets just say BLOATWARE is a understatement. All the machines I work on our way beyound NT4's req's but they barely meet Win 2k's needs( Win 2k should have 128megs ram 400+Mhz CPU and 8 gig HDD) Add office 2k to it and you can't afford a machine to run them! ;-D
It's NT4 meets Win98 there are some nice features but not worth the $$$$.
As Allen said NT4 is the way to stay, its tried and true! Wait untill x-mas when the 650's & 700's come out and rambus memory comes down in price.
Hehehh we can dream!
Regards,
Chuck

Dakkon,
Do you remember some years back when someone came out with an unheard-of 100MHz 8086 machine during the time when 10 MHz with a 10 Mb HD machine was the latest thing on the block? It was squashed from both the news and never manufactured.
Let's face it, hardware and software are in cahoots with each other and have learned the fine art of harvesting lettuce through the years.
It is human nature to be not satisfied with what he has as soon as he sees something perceived as better. Time to get the cheerleaders to sing
"Yea yea it's here to stay. Good enough is NT4, I want no more!"
Unless, of course, you are a UNIX person...
