Kobudo

Post by dominiuno »

I was reading the articles section and came upon the proposition to the Uechi-Karate/Kobudo organization. I was wondering if this happened and if so, at what dojos is this kobudo practiced.
Also, what type of wooden sword is practiced in this?

Thanks,

David:

This was a proposal that is still "on the table". Great idea which IUKF is still considering.

Why not adopt a certain kobudo organization that already exists as the "official" (for lack of a better word) kobudo organization for uechi-ryu? Why I saw this is that to my knowledge, most dojos that have kobudo already have a kobudo organization that they get their material from.

Sensei,
The only kobudo in this area that I know of is John Hassell in Worcester. I'm not aware if he trains in other weapons than the Bo. Kobudo includes several weapons, so there may need to be specialists for all weapons. I train with bo and nunchuk, the nunchuk was self taught, and the bo kata I do were taught to me once, after my instructor at the time worked out with Robert Trias. I have these on video or I would have forgotten.
IMAF seems to do a good job of mixing up different systems, but not many organizations do.
Kobudo probably must remain a personnal journey, like grappling.
