In Alan Dollar's book SECRETS OF UECHI RYU KARATE AND THE MYSTERIES OF OKINAWA there's an informative organization chart of Uechi Ryu karate.
The chart consists of four categories of training. Dollar states that a student's study of Uechi Ryu karate is
incomplete without all four principles of training.
Mental training, Theoretical training, Theoretical skill training and Physical training.
These forums present a wealth of theoretical and theoretical skill training.
And as an example, for Theoretical training, there are three sub-components:
Historical, Physiological, and Physical. Without a knowledge of the Uechi-Ryu history, without an understanding of kinetics and body mechanics, or of physical health and body composition, one's karate isn't complete.
Those are subjects always in discussion in these forums and you don't often find these subjects discussed in the dojo beyond a rudimentary level.
Your dojo has closed minds and/or insecure instructors.
Move on and find instructors who are willing to share their time, energy , efforts etc. and who look to your best interests.
Good students are sometimes hard to come by and one such as yourself should never be discouraged from learning.
As I once heard from another instructor, the appropriate advice would have been to go and look at other schools/instructors, if you find any that are better than what you have in your own dojo, indulge yourself, come back and share what you have learned.
Where do you live? Perhaps, you could "hook up" with one of the many fine teachers on the instructors' list at this web site who doesn't have a "hang-up" about training with other instructors.
sent me other information which she may not wish to publish and I won't mention anything specific. However, because she enjoyed last year's Winter and Summer Fest so much, she offered to contact other dojo in Florida to encourage them to participate.
She called, very upset last week, announcing that all the Uechi dojo she contacted "absolutely" refused to allow their students to attend WinterFest. No reasons given!
I don't know how many schools she contacted. . . I didn't ask. . . but after talking with her I realized that WinterFest was a lost cause in Florida.
I visited Ric Martin in Largo, FL recently and got an entirely different response and attitude. Ric also tried to work with the Florida dojo years ago and ran into the same treatment as I'm getting now. Although he is in the middle of building a new second dojo, which will be opening next month, he had no objection to his students attending WinterFest. (John was one of the first to sign up BTW, and was promoting the event at his dojo and among his many fellow black belts in the area)
But Ric isn't insecure and certainly isn't concerned that Sensei Gushi and the other senior instructors might "pollute" the minds of his students!
I wish to also mention that Rick Portrekus and his students were also committed to attend.
Grown men/women not allowed to attend?
In the land of the free...
Are they allowed to watch documentaries that may influence thier MA
Being a smart #ss I know...but remember (if your allowed to read this ) what your forefathers faught for. More importantly what your sons are currently fighting for.
Little harsh sounding but that type of control for a club people pay tuition simply is wrong

Mary shows true fighting spirit, thinks for herself. Karate should be fun (varied definitions of "fun") and at least in free societies, dojo`s should not dictate what a person can legally do
