Does this mean all the thousands of parodies of him over the net and the media will slowly fade away into extinction?

These days he's a bit difficult to cradle. Instead, he's taken to trying to kiss you
with these flying leaps that will knock your teeth out if you're not careful.

We're working on that...

Maverick?

Based off the book/movie charecter?
Sort of... Based instead off the TV program, which preceded the movie by at least a generation. But it's also based upon another character that my son remembers

Here is Maverick #1

Image
MAVERICK

U.S. Western

A subversive Western with a dark sense of humour...

The series was created by producer Roy Huggins and developed out of a story (co-written with Howard Browne) in which Huggins tried to see how many TV Western rules he could break and get away with...

The Maverick brothers were not heroes in the traditional Western sense. They were devious, cowardly card-sharps who exploited easy situations and quickly vanished when faced with potentially violent ones....

The series also reveled in colourful characters as well as presenting wild parodies of other TV programs of the period....
- The Museum of Broadcast Communications

And you may recognize the fellow who replaced him in the series. He later made his name with another macho role.

However... This is who number 1 son was thinking of when he thought the name up.

Image

Ultimately the name stuck because of the underlying meaning.
someone who exhibits great independence in thought and action

I've watched Steve's show for years. I've also been a martial arts instructor since 1978. I've taught and physically manipulated literally thousands of human bodies through the years.

After a while, martial artists with the kind of experience I have begin to size people up pretty quickly just by the way they hold themselves and move. Watching Steve move on his show just when fooling around was amazing. The one guy I can think of who moves similarly - like a monkey at times - is Joey Pomfret.

And there are very few humans built as compactly as SteveO.

So am I surprised to seem him grappling or doing what appears to be some "casual Muay Thai?" Nope... And when you think about it, any man who loves to grapple with wild animals is going to consider a martial artist playing games in the gymnasium as "warmup." 8O

Wish I had him as a student or - better yet - a personal friend.
