But whatever do you mean Gene? Lets see where all of these fine upstanding 'citizens' end up and what career path they choose. We already know what 61 of the released detainees have opted for. Again, in case you missed it, I do truly wish the incumbent president the best but I am not expecting it. T...

The 14th and 15th amendments : Amendment 14, section 1 "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, AND (emphasis provided) subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside." Amendment 15 - pertains to the voting rights of c...

My apologies Gene: I gave a dumbed down version on the Constitutional powers so as to make it a bit simpler for folks but anytime you want to engage in debate on the origins and function of the Constitution, please let me know. I am sure that it would be an entertaining debate. No offense intended, ...

Glen

You are correct. I was, in my small mind, thinking of the % above 50 that the President won by, ergo, if 4% of the popular voters had voted differently then regardless of the electoral college number...

Actually Gene, you are wrong. The Legislative branch writes the law, the executive branch proposes law and acts as our figure head for the world and the judicial branch interprets situations in respect to established law and the Constitution (hopefully they are interpreting everything strictly!). Go...

I guess whether or not anyone has been tortured depends on who you listen to. If information that will save American lives can be obtained, shouldn't we use what means are necessary to accomplish that? I disagree with the notion that the rights and protections of the US Constitution naturally extend...

BEIRUT, Lebanon — The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order President Obama signed Thursday that the detention center be shut down within a year. The militant, Sai...

So here is an idea to ruminate. If the detention facility at Gitmo is closed and all of the present detainees are released or transferred.. And, as like those who have been thus far released, ( I believe that 60 some odd that have been released are now linked to new plots to kill Americans), these n...

I am not thrilled about the choice the country made and lets not forget that although his electoral result was substantial the popular vote was only a 3-4 per cent difference, but I too will give him an opportunity to do well by us and I hope he does. If some of the positions put forth by him come t...

Mike: As you stated above and pursuant to Section 1 of the 20th amendment, Obama's term as President began at noon on the 20th, oath or no oath. However, as is often the case, things need to be looked at in conjunction with other constitutional requirements. Section 8 of Article II of the Constituti...
